This readme file contains additional information about the Novell NetWare
Version 3.11 SBACKUP support for the COMPAQ Tape Drive Options.
The support is made available on the COMPAQ USER PROGRAMS Diskette
Version 7.12 in the \NW386V31\TAPE directory. It is also available on
CompuServe NetWire.
This document is divided into the following sections:
1.0 Overview
2.0 CPQSCSIT NLM
2.1 Supported Tape Drives
2.2 Installation instructions
2.3 EISA Advantanges
2.3.1 Selecting from multiple tape drive adapters
2.3.2 Selecting from multiple tape drives
3.0 SBACKUP Information
1.0 OVERVIEW
CPQSCSIT.NLM is a NetWare Loadable Module (NLM) designed to support the
Novell NetWare SBACKUP NLM. The CPQSCSIT NLM is a device driver that
supports SBACKUP v3.11.
Refer to the NOVELL NetWare Version 3.11 Server Backup Manual for further
instruction about installing and operating SBACKUP. Refer to the COMPAQ
320-/525-Megabyte Tape Drive Installation Guide or the COMPAQ 1.3-/2.0-
Gigabyte Digital Audio Tape Drive Installation Guide for further information
about installing the hardware.
2.1 SUPPORTED TAPE DRIVES
The CPQSCSIT NLM allows SBACKUP for NetWare v3.11 to operate on the following
COMPAQ Tape Drives:
Drive name Part Number Drive Spare Part
320-/525-Megabyte Tape Drive 116573-001 116804-001
1.3-/2.0-Gigabyte Digital Audio Tape Drive 131162-001 131149-001
2.2 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION
The following paragraphs describe how to install the CPQSCSIT NLM on a
NetWare v3.11 server.
* Log in to the NetWare v3.11 server using an account that has privileges
to copy files to the SYS:\SYSTEM server directory.
* Copy the CPQSCSIT.NLM from the COMPAQ USER PROGRAMS Diskette to the
NetWare server SYS:\SYSTEM\DIBI directory of the server. The following
sample format assumes that the F drive is mapped to SYS:\SYSTEM and
that the COMPQA USER PROGRAMS Diskette is placed in the A diskette
drive location.
COPY A:\NW386V31\TAPE\CPQSCSIT.NLM F:\SYSTEM\DIBI\CPQSCSIT.NLM
COPY A:\NW386V31\TAPE\CPQSCSIT.DOC F:\SYSTEM\DIBI\CPQSCSIT.DOC
* If your server is an EISA based system, the following steps are required.
Running the COMPAQ SYSTEM CONFIGURATION Utility resolves resource conflicts
between adapters installed in the EISA system. This utility also makes
it possible for the CPQSCSIT NLM to determine the configuration of the
tape drive. You will need to edit the SBACKUP configuration file on the
NetWare v3.11 server in the SYSTEM\DIBI directory on the SYS: volume to
add the following line:
"COMPAQ SCSI Tape Driver." CPQSCSIT
* If your server is an ISA based system, the following steps are required.
You will need to edit the SBACKUP configuration file on the NetWare v3.11
server in the SYSTEM\DIBI directory on the SYS: volume to add the following
line:
"COMPAQ SCSI Tape Driver." CPQSCSIT PORT=330 DMA=7 IRQ=5
The values specified for PORT is a hexadecimal value. The values specified
for DMA and IRQ are decimal values.
The PORT, DMA, and IRQ settings must agree with the configuration
of the COMPAQ Tape Drive Option or the COMPAQ Tape Drive COMPRESSION
Option. Run the COMPAQ SYSTEM CONFIGURATION Utility to view the
current settings.
2.3 EISA ADVANTAGES
The CPQSCSIT NLM takes advantage of information available when the
COMPAQ Tape Drive is configured in an EISA system. Using this information,
the driver can prompt the user for which tape drive adapter or which tape
drive to use for the backup or restore operation if multiple devices are
installed in a NetWare server.
When the EISA system has been properly configured using the COMPAQ
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION Utility, the DIBI2$DV.DAT file is not used to
determine the configuration. This is an advantage because administrators
may forget to update the DIBI2$DV.DAT file when changing the tape
adapter configuration or adding new tape drives to the system.
2.3.1 SELECTING FROM MULTIPLE TAPE DRIVE ADAPTERS
When more than one COMPAQ Tape Drive adapter is detected, the CPQSCSIT NLM
will display at least three panels. The first displays a panel detailing
which slots and what kind of tape drive adapters are detected. The next
panels allow you to select the adapter to use for the backup or restore
operation. You will be instructed to press the ENTER key to select the
tape drive adapter shown or to press the ESCAPE key to move to the next
option for selection.
2.3.2 SELECTING FROM MULTIPLE TAPE DRIVES
When the selected COMPAQ Tape Drive adapter has more than one tape drive
attached, the CPQSCSIT NLM will display at least three panels. The first
panel will display a list of available devices. The next panels allow you
to select the device to use for the backup or restore operation. You will
be instructed to press the ENTER key to select the adapter shown or to
press the ESCAPE key to move to the next option for selection.
3.0 SBACKUP INFORMATION
The following section describes specific information about using the
Novell SBACKUP NLM with COMPAQ Tape Drive Options. Refer to the
Novell NetWare Version 3.11 Server Backup manual for more SBACKUP
information.
To increase the speed of Server Backup, you can use some of the following
optional command parameters. Adding parameters to the LOAD SBACKUP
command lets you change the number and size of buffers. Use this
command format:
LOAD SBACKUP buffers=10 size=256
In the above example, the buffers parameter may range from 2 to 10. The
default is 4. The size parameter may range from 16 to 256 Kbytes. The
default is 64 Kbytes.
For the CPQSCSIT NLM, we recommend you use 10 buffers each 256 Kbytes.
